Kalimpong, April 14:

Pahilo Baisakh or the Nepali New Year has started from today. Welcoming the New Year in a religious way, a Shobha Yatra was carried out from the Shakti Dhaam Mandir. On the way at Thana Dara, the children from Lok Kala Sankriti Sansthan showcased the Gorkha traditions and culture. The day’s event was organized by the Gorkha Sanskriti Sanrakshan Samiti (GSSS). The Shobha Yatra then reached Damber Chowk where the artistes of Lok Kala Sanskriti Sansthan and Kalimpong Information and Culture Department performed Gorkha dances.

People clad in their traditional attires participated in the Shobha Yatra.  The secretary of GSSS, Jyoti Karki expressed his sadness over less number of public participation in the event.
