The kalimpong police has arrested Binay Tamang, one of the top leaders and the Gorkha Janamukti Morcha (GJM) and a member of its central committee and GTA member of relling kaijaley constituency along with 4 other on Wednesday around midnight, pushing the stand off with the GJM to a new level.

According to Tamang he was arrested from a house at Rumtek Sikkim. but the police has shown the place of arrest at Romphu at Sikkim Bengal border . He was arrested on earlier political  cases.

Tamang has been booked by police in four of the major political cases including a case of Nagarkatta Police station just before a day of sibchu incident

Out of four cases three of the cases were heard today in kalimpong ACJM Court in which court has rejected his bail plea in 2 of the cases pertaining to National highway Act .

One of the first case Tamang and other five has been booked is that of February this year where the convoy of MIC Gautam Dev was stopped at 8th mile kalimpong and attacked by black flag by GJM supporter in which Section 143/341/353/427/506 was imposed ,in this case he has been granted bail. but in case of 29 July last month when a bike was burnt at Malli in the first day of strike he was booked under Section 147/435/149/ipc and R/W section 8 (B) of NH act and one case of Tista Police dated 9-2-13 his bail has been rejected
Pokrel has been under the same case of Tista and MIC Gautam dev case

' We have arrested Binay tamang and Satish Pokrel with four other from Sikkim Bengal border at Rompu last nite ' said one of the officials 

“We have heard that Tamang has been arrested. On the one hand the state government is saying the Gorkha Territorial Administration has to start working. On the other, they are arresting our leaders. It is difficult to understand what does the government want. I don’t know where will such arrests take the struggle to,” remarked Harkabahadur Chhetri, MLA and GJM leader.

Riwas Subba ,Sudhir Mangrati Lalit Chettri and Pema tamang are the other four who has been booked by police in connection with the blag flag shown to MIC
Tamang, pokrel and other four were produced in a court in Kalimpong and remanded to 14 days judicial custody.

Meanwhile all the arrested leaders and cadre of the party has started a indefinate hunger strike in kalimpong jail today against the move of the Bengal government who is trying to suppress this movement
