Awareness programme on Child Rights & Child Protection

Bal Suraksha Abhiyan conducted two awareness programme on at Gairibas Higher Secondary School and Rongo Higher Secondary School, Rongo. Awareness was given on Child Protection, Child Rights and an orientation on formation of children Club. The programme was facilitated by Tej Kumar Thapa from BSA and arrangements were made by Prakash Pradhan, village volunteer from Mal Busty, Kalimpong.
In both the programme, children and teachers were present for the programme. A short presentation on Child Rights, Child Protection and orientation on Children Club was given.
At the end of the programme, students from Gairibas Higher Secondary School requested the organization to form a children club at their school. A brief process on the formation of the club was explained. On the same day, at Garibas Higher Secondary School, twelve candidates filed nomination for the post of President, Secretary and Treasurer followed by an Election in the same school. 31 children voters gave their polls for their candidates. At the end of the voting process, Tej Kumar Thapa declared the result of the polls before all the participants.
Master Kunal Gurung was elected as President where he had got 15 votes, Miss Swarnima Gurung was elected as Secretary where she got 25 votes and Mr. Rojan Chettri was elected as Treasurer with 23 votes. Then the children choose Miss Bandhana Sharma as Vice President and Miss Alvika Gurung, Miss Bidushi Gurung, Kaushal Sharma were elected as Executive Members of the children Club. Members of this newly formed kept the club name as “Mother Teresa Children Club”. Next, newly elected President and Secretary gave a short speech and assuring that they will responsibly carry their respective duties for their club.
Students from Rongo Higher Secondary School have informed that they would like to form the club next month after proper orientation.
Meanwhile a new Children Clubs were formed at Jaldhaka Higher Secondary School, Jaldhaka. 31 children voters and 27 nominated candidates took part in this election. Mr. Arun Kumar Rai, Senior Teacher took part as the Voting Observer for this election and also helped to declare the polls result at the end of the election. The following names of the newly elected Children Club
Sujata Rai was elected as the President, Simon Rai as the Vice President, Barshika Tamang as Secretary and Nima Dolmu Lepcha was elected as the Treasurer of the Club. Pranisha Rai , Bipun Lepcha and Sajan Gurung as the Executive Member The election was held under the rules of the Child Parliament Act. The elected members shall voice for the rights and demands of the children as enshrined in the constitution.
Towards the end of the programme, children kept their club name as “Helen Keller Children Club”
