Disputed land at Thakurbari opens after 18 years

Finally
after a wait of more then 18 year and more the Disputed land at
Thakurbari was opened amidst section 144 this morning. Kalimpong which
remained tense for last few day against the High Court order to start
the construction of a park
at Thakurbari land near Jama Masjid saw massive arrangement of Forces
today when Kalimpong administration following the order of Calcutta High
court came to open the lock of the gate.
The
verdict of High Court to open the disputed land in favour of Thakurbari
Nari Sangathan has been challenged in the apex court by Anjuman
Islamia who were holding a protest in front of Kalimpong Sub-divisional
office against the order of local administration of not providing a land
as directed by High Court.
Additional
women CRPF was bought today in Kalimpong which witness the coming of
Kurseong SDPO , Darjeeling DIB DSP and Local Para military and state
police deployment at Thakurbari which comes under Ward No.1 of Kalimpong
Muncipal area . The gates were opened in presence of DMDC Pritam Limbu.

Chisti said his organisation respect the order of HC but said that they
feel cheated because the administration has acted on one side of verdict
only. He requested the administration not to allow any construction
until the verdict of Supreme Court comes. The member of Muslim
community were wearing a black band in their arms against the on sided
attitude of Local administration
Kalimpong SDO Radhika Aiyar said the
order to open the park was done following the Verdict of the High Court.
The
land consisting of more then 2600 sq feet is attached to Jama Masjid.It
had a primary school and a park in late ninety but later after the
shifting of school the owner of the land John Huang tried to sale the
land to Anjuman which was objected by Thakurbari Nari Sangathan which
filed a PIL at Calcutta High court at 2007 of which verdict was granted
in favour of Sangathan last year.
