Kalimpong, Nov 20th
Three child laborers were rescued by the Bal Suraksha Abhiyan (BSA) NGO of Kalimpong. They had conducted raids at the hotels of Kirney under Malii Chec kpost along NH 31A today. Acting on a source information received on the helpline, the workers of BSA conducted the operation with the help of a Police team from Malii Checkpost , Malli. Along with the hotels, the shops at the area were also searched.
The rescued children fall under the age group of 10-14 and are mostly from Dooars and other outside areas. These children were brought by assuring that they will be given proper education for the domestic help they provide. However, the children informed that they were not being sent to school and instead they have been treated very badly.
Today a FIR has been lodged against the three owner of Hotel under Juvenile Justice Act 2000 & Amendment 2006, Child Labour (Prohibition & regulation) Act 1986 and others.
After rescue BSA inform to Child Welfare Committee Darjeeling . At present rescued children were sent to Child Rehabilitation Center of Bal Suraksha Abhiyan Trust 8th Mile Kalimpong by verbal order of Child Welfare Committee Darjeeling .
The search team comprised of Tej Kumar Thapa Child Release officer of BSA along with its workers and OC Malli Check post Suprakash Sarkar and his team.
The date 20 November, marks the day on which the Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child, in 1959, and the Convention on the Rights of the Child, in 1989
Universal Children's Day is not simply a day to celebrate children for who they are, but to bring awareness to children around the globe that have succumbed to violence in forms of abuse, exploitation and discrimination.
Apart from this many government agencies run all over the state and our Darjeeling District too but lack of proper function has boost the morale of the people who keep child labour.
