Inauguration of the Child Rights Protection Desk at Pudung Gram Panchayat

Universal Children's Day takes place annually on November 20. The day was first proclaimed by the United Nations General
Assembly (UN) in 1954 and it was established to encourage all countries to
institute a day, firstly to promote mutual exchange and understanding among
children and secondly to initiate action to benefit and promote the welfare of
the world's children.
The
date 20 November, marks the day on which the Assembly adopted
the Declaration of the Rights of the Child, in 1959, and
the Convention on the Rights of the Child, in 1989
Universal Children's Day is not simply a day to
celebrate children for who they are, but to bring awareness to children around
the globe that have succumbed to violence in forms of abuse, exploitation and
discrimination.
To mark this special day, Bal Suraksha Abhiyan Trust
(BSA) took the initiative to inaugurate Child Rights Protection Desk (CRPD) at
Pudung Gram Panchayat on 20th November 2014. CPRD will be a desk where anyone can
approach to discuss the issues and address the problems related to children.
BSA main objective in setting up this desk is to increase awareness & solve
issues on Child Rights among community members in order to ensure that every
child is protected and are able to enjoy their childhood. Any students /
children from the community or concerned people can register their cases in
this help desk and Child Protection Worker’s (CPW) from BSA will follow up with
these cases.
Looking at the potential area where people visit, on
each alternate days of the week, the desk will be set up in front of Pudung
Gram Panchayat Office (Monday), Pudung Stand (Wednesday) and Pala Haat
(Sunday).
The
inauguration programme started off with garlanding the invited guests followed
by an welcoming speech by Mrs.AratiChhetri (CPW) and about “Universal
Children’s Day” and purpose of Child Rights Protection Desk.Mr. Dinesh Sharma,
Executive Assistant of Pudung Gram Panchayat said that NGOs such as BSA are
taking good initiatives in helping the community and Gram Panchayat office is
always ready to support such NGOs.
Mr.
N.T. Lepcha, Retired Superintendent of Customs Officer inaugurate the desk by
cutting the ribbon. Other invited guest present were Mr.NarendraPariyar
(Teacher of Chandramaya Primary School, Pudung) and students of Chandramaya
Primary School, Mr.Suman B.K. and Deepak Yonzon (Teachers of Pudung Basic
School), Mr.BikashGhalay (Principal of Bud Nursery School), Mr.Tej Mani Pradhan
(Teacher of Chandramaya high School) and Mrs.DurgaTamang (Resource Person of
SHG & Secretary of Y.C. Sungdung II region).
