Rape Paiyong case - Local demand immediate action against culprit

Kalimpong December 27, 2014: the tormenting degree of misery has shoved the part of Paiyong after the rape of a minor who was a resident of Paiyong Busty, under Paiyung Gram Panchyat, Block II and a student studying in class 7, 17th Mile, on the eve of Christmas-24th December who evidently is under the medical care with multiple stitches.
People from different organizations such as, Nari Kalyan Samaj, Nari Jagaran Sangathan, Gram Bikash Sangh, Yimi Bhutia Association and the School which she studied assembled and crowded the police station in protest, demanding the immediate arrest of the accused Kumar Chettri, 26, who is absconding since 24th December.
300 approximate people were gathered in the police station, submitted a memorandum expecting the culprit to be nabbed and book him for committing a heinous crime. Many sad faces had voices within them which dint speak but few expressed their general panic to the Media, remembering the recent suicide of a girl in 21st mile who had reasoned as sexual-torture in her note, Pratiksha Chettri questioned, ‘we know that Rape and molestations can’t be stopped but why aren’t the children spared?’
The disgusted parents present in the congregation said that they are now afraid to leave their little ones at home, ‘Time has become very uncertain; we have brought our children along’ said a frightened mother. However the crowd was murmuring that the rapist was not bad when he first entered the village two years ago, he started staying with a relative named Nabin Kumai, Kumai often termed him as his nephew, informed the neighbors.
The increasing sexual assault has alarmed the town and the parents seem more nervous than the children, ‘In Paiyung the parents are reacting more than the children and the reason is very obvious’ added Pratiksha Chettri. The school administration has also got the jitters, regretting the incident Nirmal Ghimeray from the administrative department of St. Mary’s School said ‘school comprises of different age groups and each student is like our own, we strongly condemn the incident and want an immediate arrest of the accused.’
However the police are working and investigating the case, the source asked the public to cooperate with the laws and assured them with the arrest of Kumar Chettri and said that they require time for further investigation.
