Kalimpong soldier posted in Congo dies of electrocution

Kalimpong lad Brijesh Thapa (23) who was posted in Congo in UN Peace Keeping force has died due to electrocution.
Thapa’s home is situated about 30 kms away from Kalimpong town of Tanyang Busty of Samalbong GP Block 1.
Thapa joined the Indian Army in 2011 from Darjeeling and was posted in 4/5 Gorkha Regiment.He came on a 15 days leave in the month of September before going to Congo.
He had said he will be posted there for six months and will construct a new house in his village after coming back, said his father Hem Thapa.
The news of his death came in the morning of 5 November as one Major General of his regiment informed about the incident.
Hem Thapa said: “We were informed that our son Brijesh, after completing his morning PT Parade entered the bathroom to bath where he got an electric shock resulting in his death.”
Thapa’s body is still at Congo and will be flown to India. His body is expected to reach the village by a day or two.
He has left behind his father Hem Thapa,mother Devika Thapa and sister Barsana Thapa behind.
