Meeting on garbage ends without conclusion , SDO visit dumping area

The garbage problem which now have
entered its 4th day is slowly creeping up in Kalimpong town due to a protest
from locals from 1st January. The Bhalukhop gram sudhar samiti and locals from
lower newar gaun has restricted Kalimpong municipality to dumps the garbage
alleging the manner in which the wastes
were being dumped was unsystematic.
Last three days the
local gathered at protest site demanding the Municipal administration to visit
the site bout 6 kms away from Kalimpong Town. The protestor was called by administration
for a discusson yesterday but they decline but today they attended a meeting
called by Kalimpong municipality at municipality Hall.
SDO Kalimpong now
the administrator of Kalimpong municipality Nirmalaya Gharami , executive
officer K K Lohar , GTA Sabhasad Nima Tamang along with other officials met the
local protester in a meeting which lasted about 2 hours ended without any
conclusion.
Soon after the
meeting SDO and other went to visit the Biogas Plant and dumping area at lower
newar gaun.
Many locals were
gathered at the site when they heard that officials are visiting, The locals
briefed the Administrator and requested to take necessary action to make the
garbage systematically .
Administrator
Gharami said that he have just taken the charge as administrator and need time
to settle the problems. He said the garbage need to be settled systematically.
Sachin Rai ,
spokesperson of the samiti said “ until and unless the garbage is being tackle
systematically our protest will continue.
Meanwhile another
meeting has been called at Kalimpong municipality tomorrow informed Rai.
