CPRM demands apology from CM Banerjee for terming hill people as beggars
MUKESH SHARMA
Kalimpong,
July 14:
“The
people of hills were never beggars and shall not be in the future too”, reads a
poster at Damber Chowk. “We want an apology from the Chief Minister”, demands
another poster.
The
West Bengal CM, Mamata Banerjee’s statement, “If tourism is well developed in
the hills then the people here will not be compelled to go to other States and
beg for jobs”, has yet again caused a stir in the hills. The CM during her address
during the 198th Bhanu Jayanti celebrations at Kalimpong on Friday,
speaking on tourism development in the hills had stated the above statement.
Therefore, the Communist Party of Revolutionary Marxist (CPRM) strongly
condemning the above said conducted postering today in the Kalimpong town.
Speaking
on the same, the CPRM Kalimpong Regional Committee Spokesperson, Mohan Poudyal
stressed that the people of the hills till date have not begged in order to
earn a living. “If CM Banerjee through this statement was hinting on Gorkhaland
than she is mistaken as the demand of Gorkhaland is as per the Constitution of
India. Just a mere saying ‘Banga Bhang
Hobena’ does not mean that she is above the Indian Constitution and in fact
she has violated the Constitution”, added Poudyal. The party has also expressed
sadness that she even violated the election code of conduct consequently by
declaring the developmental schemes of the hills during the Bhanu Jayanti celebrations.
Likewise,
the CPRM Yuva Sangathan General Secretary, Arun Ghatani complained that the
administration as of now has not taken action against the CM who has violated
the code of conduct. “Does not the election code of conduct imply the CM”
questioned Ghatani. Hence, the General Secretary has further appealed the
Election Commission to take abrupt action against the CM if there is no
clarification from the CM.
