Teacher training workshop for setting up of Heritage Clubs

Taking the teachers’ representatives of the Schools of Darjeeling and Kalimpong, a training workshop was organized at the Tribunal High School, Darjeeling today by the Intach-Darjeeling Chapter along with Heritage Education and Communication Service, Intach. This one day workshop inaugurated by the Chairman of School Service Commission, Darjeeling, Dr GS Yonzone aims in setting up of Heritage Clubs.

The Director of Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage, Purnima Dutta explained the importance of the country’s natural endowments and stated that only the ageold artefacts and antiques are not our heritage, even the natural endowments such as the hills, rivers, trees, etc. should be considered as a heritage.
Dr Yonzone who presided as the chief guest said that till date no thought has been given or has been concentrated on the culture, tradition and natural surroundings of the hills, which are the speciality of the region. A right step for the same is a necessity, he stressed. The heritage of the hills should be highlighted to the world and its should be conserved side by side, he added.
