Emu birds to become Krishi Mela’s main attraction

Kalimpong, January 10:
Preparations for Krishi Mela slated to be held from January 12 at Relli are at full swing. The Mela will prolong till 5 days. The President of the organizing committee informed that the inaugural function will be of 2 hours. The stalls of the Agriculture Department will be inaugurated, awareness programmes will be organized and cultural programmes will be held every evening. The Darjeeling MLA, Trilok Dewan will be the chief guest for the inaugural function.
Live broadcast of everyday programme will be done for the public, informed the organizing committee President.
Everyday there will be different chief guests. For 16th, Jyoti Kumar Rai, for 14th, Sabhasad Ramesh Lama, for 15th District Collector, Soumitra Mohan and for 16th, the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) Executive Chief, Bimal Gurung will be the chief guest.
Emu birds will be the main attraction of the Mela. Performances by different Departments in the Village Olympic Sports will add on to the attraction. Also the local produce of the local farmers will be displayed. The final day will witness distribution of domestic animals, seeds and saplings of various flowers and vegetables, distribution of old age pension by the hands of GTA Executive Chief.
Subh Pradhan, Secretary of the organizing committee, Kumar Chamling, Sub Divisional Secretary, Dr RB Bhujel, Sabhasad and others were also present during today’s press meet.
