Kalimpong today witness the old charms which was missing last year. The Independence day Celebration committee  organized the I Day program at Mela Ground. Kalimpong MLA Dr Harka Bahadur Chettri was present as the Chief Guest. Amidst Weather Hindrances the participant of 23 different School entered Mela Ground which was already Jam pack. Dr Chettri hoisted the National Flag. The environment on this day seems to be a festive occasion. NCC cadets first took the Salute and then started the two to three hour long Famous March Past by all 23 school. Every year the Standard of Schools is increasing due to its wonderful Band Group. The Bagpiper Band which was started by SUMI set a trend to other school . Many Girls school were led by Pipe Band with wonderful Attire. Suva Pradhan and Suraj Mani Pradhan the evergreen host of I Day Program added Glory to the program. Special officers from Defense was bought to monitor the March Past of Different School. Two schools gave wonderful display of Band. For the First time a Best Band Trophy was announced in the name of Late Thsering Dorje Bhutia which wa
s donated by Kalimpong Main line Taxi Welfare Association. The Girls from Pranami Balika Vidhya Mandhir came 3rd while Kumidini Homes bagged 2nd Place in Band But it was the Old horse the Smart Boys From S.U.M.I which came back and bagged the First Price. The point difference between all three points was one .

The March past competition was divided into two parts with CBSE/ ICSE and Madhyamik/HS school. First in CBSE/ ICSE became the Smart and discipline girls from St Josephs Convent ( 82) Points While Vrindawan and Dr Grahams Homes came in Second and Third Position respectively. In the Madhyamik/HS school again the Boys from S.U.M.I was declared the Winner with 84 points while Government Higher Secondary School(81points) and Girls High School(79 points) came in Second and Third Position respectively. S.U.M.I School received the overall Championship.
