8 marathon runners from the Darjeeling hills will take part in the Mumbai Marathon 2015 on January 18, thanks to the untiring effort of Roshni Rai, an amateur marathoner who is a corporate lawyer by profession, whose dream is to produce an Olympian from her neck of the woods.

Rosni, who hails from Pedong, about 20 kms from here is facilitating the participation of the 8 marathoners under her “Run with Roshni” banner to showcase the potential of athletes from the hills.

7  will be running the half-marathon in the upcoming Mumbai run while one  will run the full marathon.

A team of 8 member today Left Kalimpong for Mumbai.

Premika Rai and Menuka Rai are the two women runner, Uttam Bhujel , Pratush Lepcha Ranjit Rai , Bikram Thapa ,Kamal Thapa will run the 21 kms half Marathon while Runesh Tamang will take part in 42 kms full marathon.

Informing today from Mumbai Roshni said that she will be visiting different school of Darjeeling soon after Mumbai Marathon to encourage student to participate in same.

We have planned to organise a half Marathon in Kalimpong on 1st of May to extract talent and help them give national and International stage .

The event planned in May winner and top two will be trained to participate in next edition of Mumbai Marathon informed Rai. Just like the Kenyan, we also come from high altitude, but there is no running culture in our community. We must develop the culture of running,”she said" .
